Leaping Log Enduro Series

We've had some enquiries from people who've not ridden Enduro before that are interested but not sure how the events are run.
We have this little document put together by Murray Cook that is a brief explanation of what the races are and how they go.

**************************************************************

Leaping Log Enduro Series – Format

Based upon traditional Enduro format

3 riders per minute at start (may vary at promoters discretion depending upon weather conditions).

Riders shall be allocated Rider Numbers at Riders Briefing.

Race Schedule set by each individual club, but generally schedule is reasonably easy.

Race schedule shall be posted in the pit area by Riders Briefing.

At the Start Area, the official Timeclock shall be visible for both the riders and the Starters. This Timeclock relates to the Race Schedule, however, the time displayed on this clock does not always represent ‘real time’, often it may be adjusted to ‘funny time’ at term used to describe adjusted time.

It is riders responsibility to ensure that they present themselves to the Start Area at their allotted start time as noted in the Race Schedule. Starts later than 2 minutes after allotted time shall be penalised (60 points per minute).

If a rider does start late, their Race Schedule shall be adjusted to the later time.

No time cards are used in this series.

Once leaving the Start Area, riders are on ‘Trail Time’, only the Special Test is timed and the cumulative total of the Special Test shall determine the riders position within their class and for Outright position.

On the first lap, riders are not timed on the Special Test as this lap is treated as ‘Sighting’ or practice lap.

The total number of laps completed during the race may vary between events depending upon length and difficulty of the course and weather conditions.

Expert, Clubman, Over 35’s and Pony Express classes shall complete all laps.

125cc 2 stroke/250cc 4 stroke 13-15 year class shall complete 2 laps, sit out 2 laps and complete 2 more laps (this may vary depending upon event duration).

Riders entered in competitive classes are required to complete all laps. Failure to do so shall constitute a DNF.

At Special Tests, riders shall start at the direction of the Special Test Starters, generally 1 every 20 seconds. Riders are not required to stop at the finish (flying finish) but it is important that the finishers are able to identify the riders (yelling out your number is advisable).

Special test times shall be posted in the pit area throughout the course of the day.

Pony Express class shall be 2 riders to a team riding either 1  or 2 bikes. Riders shall identified by either ‘A’ or ‘B’ on their riding number.

Individual Special Test times shall not be recorded for each Pony Express team. The cumulative total of both ‘A’ and ‘B’ riders within a team shall determine the class position.

Junior competitors in 50cc, 65cc and 85cc classes compete on a separate course in either a natural terrain MX style or Sprint format.

UPDATE: we've had some rain in Holbrook during the week, not a lot but enough to keep the dust away.
The weekend weather is looking to be cold - low teens with possible morning frost.
Those camping might like to make sure they've got plenty of blankets and warm clothes.

Rnd. 1 Leaping Log - Abandoned

That sucked! We were in the main street of Adelong when we got the phone call that the road into the enduro site was impassable and that the committee and the land owner had called the first round of the leaping log off. There'd been heaps of rain in the 24 hrs leading up to Sunday and as regular competitors know the road in to the site is narrow and would have been slippery and dangerous. The last thing we all want to do is chop up the Land Owner's roads and paddocks ... sorry to all those that rose early and drove for hours to get there.

The Leaping Log Committee meeting is on this Wednesday night and no doubt they will look at the possibility of the round being rescheduled. We'll let you know the outcome.

* Rescheduled to 24 October 2010. confirmed *

Rnd 1 Leaping Log, WWMCSC to be held at Tumut.

Hope you're all fit and ready. Round 1 of the Leaping Log is only a couple of weeks away. Sunday May 30th 2010.

First round will be hosted by the Wagga Wagga MCSC at Tumut. Same track as last year, about 11 km's out of Tumut on the Snowy Mountains Hwy towards Talbingo. If you hit Blowering Dam you've gone too far! We'll get a map up for the out of towners. Wagga MCSC should have the gateway marked, keep an eye out for signs.

Sign on is from 7.30 am to 8.30 am. Sunday morning. Don't forget you'll need a membership to one of the club's participating in the Leaping Log series - Wagga, Holbrook, Young, Leeton, Griffith. Holbrook has membership forms available on the website ready for download, payment options are listed on the form. One event licences will be available on the day or can be pre-arranged from Club Secretaries (Holbrook contact Raelene: 0260205255 or holbrookmsc@hotmail.com ) Getting this stuff organised before you head up there saves a heap of time at sign on.

Weather for the weekend is starting to look a little dodgy - possibly cold and showery on Sunday. Be prepared with wet weather gear and changes of clothes just in case.

2009 Riverina Interclub Challenge Presentation Night

Wanabrook Motocross / Leaping Log Enduro / Golden Wheels Dirt Track - Presentation Night Cancelled

2009 Riverina Interclub Challenge Presentation Night

Hello All,

At last night’s committee meeting the unfortunate decision was made to cancel the 2009 series presentation night which was to be held on the 7th of December at Wagga Boat Club. A vote was taken by all clubs involved and the decision was unanimous to not proceed with the evening. Due to a lack of numbers the committee felt the correct decision was made. The cancellation was not taken lightly and all involved were very disappointed with the outcome. The date unfortunately clashed with SuperX at Canberra of which many people are attending as well as the Snowy Ride and a number of other race meetings. The committee attempted to re-schedule the date with many suggestions but in the end it was too difficult to find a suitable date which did not clash with other events. All eligible riders will still receive their trophies. All trophies will be distributed through club representatives to be presented at each individual club’s end of year function.

For further information please contact your relevant club representative.

Regards,

Phil Meline

Secretary

Holbrook 6 Hour - Are you ready??

The track has been marked, conditions are perfect ...it's going to be a big weekend!

Some footage from track-marking - AWESOME hill climb

Sunday 9th August 2009.
Track Marking at Belmay.

G'day all, I spent the day at Belmay preparing the track for this weekends Holbrook 6 Hour Pony Express (Enduro).
Conditions are near perfect up at Belmay. Having received good rain over the last couple of weeks, it's wet in parts but solid underneath. the best conditions in years.
I can confirm to you that the track is superb.

A great effort by those individuals who made the effort to travel over the last couple of weekends and mark the track. Following a mix of well used single track, some recently discovered single track that some of us had forgotten and also brand new sections specially selected on foot.

This track has some "Pin it Wide Uphill" that will test the staying power of your mount. Don't forget that Golden Rule of the Bush "What goes up must come down".
There is some "Seat of your Pants Downhill, Hold on Betsy you aint stoppin till the Bottom, Shiny side Up or Shiny Side Down"
You've gotta admire gravity, Even after all these years, it's still strong.

Last thing Sunday I did a time trial lap and posted a 39 Minutes.

So all is ready, you can still enter if you like. I have 61 Entries Paid up and Ready to Go. There is still Room for a few more.
The Entry Numbers have exceeded what I thought would be a minimum and that's great.

Thanks must go to all our Club track markers, marshalls and volunteers. A special thank-you to our Generous property owners, the Jones family.

Lets hope we get favourable weather - it's looking like clearing showers, high teens to twenty

Leaping Log Enduro - Rnd. 3 Leeton

Leaping Log Enduro Round 3 this weekend, Sunday 5th July.

Results are now up on  the seasons results page

This years Leeton Enduro will be at the Property Known as "Bonnie Doon" (Ahh the Serenity, not likely when about 100 Dirt Bikes fire into life on Sunday).
Check out the Leeton Website for a Map. http://www.leetonmotorcycleclub.com/

The Leeton Club have been out at the property preparing the trail and special test sections of the course. The Leeton Boys have added a bit more open grass track to the special test.
The "Bonnie Doon" property is a fantastic place for an enduro. It has plenty of mixed terrain to please all enduro riders. There are wide open sections through grazing country, that link up with stands of timber on the higher ground. There are some rocky sections but they are not difficult to cross. You've gotta love the loamy soil at Leeton, with some rain during the week the course should be ideal.

NSW Junior Enduro June 6 & 7, 2009

This coming weekend sees HMCSC host two rounds of the NSW Junior Enduro titles at "Bendemere" Cookardinia.

A great way to find it is to go to Goole Maps Australia and do a search for

'Jerraluen Rd, Cookardinia, 2650'

This will give you acurate directions and distances from either Wagga Wagga or Holbrook ... once you get into Jerraluen Rd., just keep driving until you hit the end of the road, the track is on the left hand side, right at the end.

Sign on starts at 12pm Saturday (all entries should be in by now ... please contact the club secretary Raelene Webb (02)60205255 if you have not entered yet)
Catering will be available from 11am, camping is available on site (thank you to the Jones family for allowing camping on their property)

HMCSC Junior Enduro Working Bee

Holbrook Motor Cycle Sports Club had a Working Bee today (Sunday 17th May). A group of enthusiastic Club Members met at 'Bendemeer', Cookardinia at 10am. There was 8 Adults, 2 Juniors and 4 Kids. First job was to light a fire for lunch, good hot ashes for cooking lunch are essential. Then off to the Special Test No.1, some on foot and others riding motorcycles we began marking with arrows and bunting tape.

Today we marked Special Test No. 1 it's the main bush test at Bendemeer. It is a fantastic ride, it's all single track and it's a long test to find out the fitness of an Enduro Rider. There is fast flowing sections which rise and fall through the timber, and technical sections with off camber and loose surfaces to really test your bike control. Some of the faster sections contain acceleration and braking bumps that make you work hard to keep the bike tracking straight. I personally love this Special Test.

After two hours of track marking it was time for lunch. We set up a tripod and suspended the bushman's frypan over the Camp Fire and cooked up Sausages, Rissoles, Steak and Onion. We all enjoyed a good feed and talked about details for the Junior Enduro on the 6th and 7th of June.

As a group we decided there will be Two Special Tests.
  • Special Test No. 1 "The Bush Test"
  • Special Test No. 2 "The Back Paddock Test". The Back paddock Test will be a shorter Test, through a section of Timber in the Back Paddock.
There will be a Two Time Controls.
  • The Start/ Finish Control
  • The Back Paddock Control. All Riders will be required to carry (and not lose) their Time Card.

The whole track will be reversed for Sunday's Round 2.

After lunch we completed marking Special Test No.1. At 4pm we were finished.

Don't Forget next weekend.

Junior Enduro Working Bee. Sunday 24th May. 10am Meet at Wangoola MX Track to pick up Toilets and other equipment required for the Junior Enduro. Then out to Bendemeer, Cookardinia to continue with setting up. Contact Raelene and Greg Webb for details.

See You on Two Wheels
